Student dancers frequently practice in Lower Sproul Plaza directly in front of Zellerbach Hall. Piazza San Marco in Venice influenced the plaza and its placement among the surrounding student services buildings. Below the plaza is underground parking.

The campanile at Piazza San Marco similarly inspired the Sather Tower, Cal’s Campanile.
