Amid the swirl of cheerleaders’ skirts, Oski greets his enthusiastic fans. Oski never speaks, never reveals the identity of the person inside the suit. Only Oski is real. He embodies the spirit of generations of Cal students.

Originally the spirit of Oski dwelt in live bears brought to early athletic contests. In 1941 he was reincarnated in his present form. The name derives from a turn-of-the-century yell: “Oski wow wow! Whiskey wee wee!”
