Maybeck's First Church
# 13
Bernard Maybeck’s First Church of Christ, Scientist (1910), masterfully uses light, color, Gothic tracery, exposed timbering and elaborate detail to create an awe-inspiring reverential experience. He combines Gothic, Byzantine, Romanesque and Japanese elements with modern material such as cast concrete, redwood timbering and asbestos paneling. It is Berkeley’s first National Landmark.
